Guest Speaker: Dr. Arya A. Amirie
Founder and First Executive Director of the Iranian Institute for International Political and Economic Studies in Teheran
Arya A. Amirie, well known as a knowledgeable and insightful speaker, holds a M.A & Ph.D. in political science from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. Currently, he is the founder and volunteer director of the Civil Service Academy, specifically aimed to train minorities for careers in law enforcement. He served as a foreign policy advisor to the Shah of Iran from 1973 to 1979 and Middle East advisor to President Ronald Reagan from 1979 to 1983.
Dr. Amirie is the founder and was executive director for over 6 years of the Iranian Institute for International Political and Economic Studies in Tehran to advise the Shah on foreign policy. This institute was developed after Dr. Amirie established and directed the Kent State and Pahlavi Universities’ Exchange Program.
Author of three books on Middle East Politics titled: Politics of Oil, The Persian Gulf & Indian Ocean in International Politics, Iran in the 1980’s, five books in Law Enforcement, an Autobiography: Unparalleled Journey: From Raising Lambs to Advising World Leaders, and author of many articles on issues concerning the Middle East, Dr. Amirie brings unique knowledge to clarify Iran’s and the Middle East’s present situation.
As an American Citizen who has spent last thirty years teaching at UCLA, UC Irvine, and Kent, Professor Amirie’s analysis of the current controversy surrounding Iran’s perceived attempt to develop nuclear weapons presents two perspectives, Middle Eastern and Western.
Providing a breakdown of Nuclear Weapons and U.S.-Iranian Relations, Dr. Amirie will address many topics including: The affects of a nuclear Iran to political stability in the Middle East, Security of the Persian Gulf states and Israel, The flow of Persian Gulf oil supplies to the world, The hostility between the Shi’ites and Sunnis, The non-proliferation treaty and how the vast majority of Iranians perceive Americans, Along with a historical overview of Iran’s relationship with its neighbors, its own regime, and a view of how relations can be restored between the U.S. and Iran.
