Grades 9-12: Witnesses to War - Holocaust Survivors and Artists

Program Description
The Temple Museum of Religious Art recently acquired a collection of 45 Holocaust Wall Hangings by artist Judith Weinshall Liberman that visually depict historic maps, scenes and philosophic concepts regarding the history of the Holocaust. The first connection is a presentation featuring the Holocaust Wall Hangings. The students explore the creative process, interpretation, and explore how an artist honors historical memory.

The second connection is a conversation with a local Cleveland Holocaust survivor describing their experiences during World War II. Both lessons analyze how history is interpreted by examining historic documents, eyewitness accounts from Holocaust survivors and shared artistic interpretations of the artist’s works.

Program Length This is a two-part videoconference. Each connection is 45 - 60 minutes.

Career Spotlight: VP of Merchandise Sales/Licensing

Program Description Come learn about the unique career of Steve Strawbridge, vice president of merchandise sales/licensing at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will be our featured speaker on Thursday March 11, 2010 at 9:00 AM and again at 11:00 AM. Each session will last approximately 50-minutes with the majority of that time allowing students the ability to ask questions of the guest speaker.

Strawbridge’s overall job responsibilities are two-part: (1) Overseeing all of the merchandising areas including the museum store (2) Working directly with the Hall of Famer’s in licensing contracts for marketing and merchandising opportunities such as autograph sessions and appearances. Strawbridge recently returned from a 3-day trip with the Class of 2010 where he had Emmitt obtain a position like this. Smith, Jerry Rice and the other 5 new class members autographed over 100 items for the Hall of Fame. You will also learn about Strawbridge’s education background and his thoughts on how your students can someday obtain a position like this.

Each videoconference is limited to three sites and the cost is $50 per site. Interested schools will be selected on a first come basis. If your school is interested in one of the sessions being offered, please email the Hall of Fame’s Education Department at EducationalPrograms@ProFootballHOF.com.

The program is designed for grades 6th-12th and is supplemented by a classroom activity which is aligned with national standards of education.

Grades 9-12: An Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art **FREE**

Join us for an interactive tour of “Bring Me a Lion,” a contemporary exhibition of Indian Art currently showing at Webster University’s Hunt Gallery from March 19 to April 17, 2010. Students will interact with Tushar Joag, one of the most prominent contemporary Indian artists to date, and see examples of his work. They will also meet the curator for “Bring Me A Lion” as they view other works also included in the exhibition. As they view the works, students will be invited to experience what it means to be a “contemporary artist” working in and/or influenced by the country of India and Indian culture and history. How do the artists work? Where do their ideas come from? What media do they employ and why? How is their perspective different from, and similar to, other contemporary artists working today?

This program is recommended for high school students and is available FREE of charge.
An overview of the exhibition can be found at http://www.indianartnews.com/xn/detail/2178147:Event:187253?xg_source=activity.
