| Program Description | Poetry PLEASE is an annual videoconference event involving several schools, visiting poet George Bilgere and an on-line publication celebrating National Poetry Month. To visit the poet's website, go to http://www.georgebilgere.com/. It is a produced by University Circle Interactive Cleveland. This experience includes the writing of student response poems after reading selected poems written by and chosen by the visiting poet. Participating teachers receive project packets 4 weeks prior to the videoconference with selected poems for reading, poetry books, a lesson plan and poetry rubric for this project. The 2011 Visiting Poet is award-winning poet George Bilgere. The culminating videoconferences will take place on Wednesday, April 13 & April 15 at 9:30 am (EST) and 12:30 pm. Once received, teachers will lead their classes through these readings and lesson plan. Through a group workshop/critique process, students will choose 6 poems from the class and email them to be published in an on-line chapbook. These chapbooks are meant to be used as resources by the participating teachers classrooms and students personal libraries. Past Visiting Poets have included: John Donoghue, Tim Seibles, Mary Quade, Marilyn Krysl and Eliot Khalil Wilson, Barbara Presnell and Jared Carter. The day of the poetry videoconference, the poet will read his selected poems for the students and the students will share their work with the other classes and the visiting poet. All participating classes will keep their books as class resources and receive commemorative chapbooks of the 2011 student poetry event. There are morning and afternoon multi-point videoconferences scheduled for our final poetry-sharing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The poetry conference begins with student requests for the visiting poet to read specific poems for the group. 2.The poet discusses what it is to be a serious writer and talks about the process of publishing a first book. 3.
