TWICE ASK registration is now open!
We have a full line up of author and specialist interviews for the first semester:

TWICE partners with various ISDs around Michigan to bring ASK Author videoconferences. ASK (“Authors Specialist and Knowledge”) is an organized process that provides students with the opportunity to interview an author or a subject specialist in the topic they are reading about in a novel. The program uses excellent literature, journal writing and interviewing to promote reading for understanding.

A Conversation with Ghana Students(8th-12th)

Description:

This videoconference is a joint project of Semester at Sea (SAS) and Global Nomads Group (GNG). From September – December 2009, SAS will embark on its historic 100th voyage. During this exciting shipboard expedition, GNG and SAS will collaborate to produce a series of documentaries as well live, open dialogue videoconferences between schools in the United States and schools and cultural sites around the world. Nations involved will include Spain, Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. The aim of the program is for youth participants to broaden their understanding of an increasing “flat world” in the 21st century through live, cross-cultural conversations on the manifold issues that relate to immigration and globalization. Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp

Dear Rock 'n Roller,

If you’re half as excited as I am about the prospect of rocking out with the likes of Meat Loaf, Ace Frehley, Jon Anderson and over 20 more Rockstars, then you’re probably having a pretty hard time sitting still right now. And if you’re a little nervous too, don’t worry. It’s natural -- I mean, heck, performing in and of itself can be intimidating, and when you add a superstar rock musician to the mix, well, let’s just say, I sympathize. But it is because of those nerves that you need a trip to Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. I have yet to encounter a camper who left without feeling a whole new sense of self-confidence and a newfound empowerment to conquer the challenges in his or her day-to-day life. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never before picked up an instrument or if you’ve been playing for 30 years, there’s something to be gained from this camp. Got some words you’d like to put to music? We can help you do it -- and we’ve got plenty of professionals on hand who can make it happen. Been meaning to revisit those guitar lessons you took as a teenager? No worries: it only takes a few chords to make a great rock song.

The point is this: Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp isn’t just about rubbing elbows with famous people or showing off your guitar licks -- though of course those things do happen -- it’s about making you a better, stronger, more successful person on and off the stage. I have plenty of camper stories to prove it. Diane Birch, who attended the 2006 Hollywood camp, just released a solo album that is doing very well. One camper’s wife told me her husband’s road rage was cured by his camp experience, another camper gained the courage to take on a job managing a country band and more than one executive has told me that playing with a band helped him be a more effective manager. And one of our youngest campers, 16-year-old Yayo, is living his dream: he’s become a bona fide touring musician. His recent gig at the Whisky A Go Go brought out Robby Krieger of The Door. He was very impressed!

Grades 4-7: Storytelling September 11 **FREE**

The Southern Ohio Storytelling Festival in conjunction with the South Central Ohio Computer Association (SCOCA) is offering 2 videoconference connections on Friday, Sept. 11, featuring several nationally known, regional and local storytellers as part of the 6th Annual Southern Ohio Storytelling Festival in Chillicothe, Ohio. This event is suggested for grades 4-7 and high school classes in English, Speech, Drama/Theatre. There is no charge for the connection. This year's storytellers include Cathy Jo Smith, Suzi Whaples, Bill Harley, Carmen Deedy, Andy Offutt Irwin, Bill McKell and Frank McGarvey.
