Celebrate Earth Day with a live performance of “Bella Gaia”!

On April 22, 2009, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center’s Digital Learning Network is hosting an exhilarating event with composer and musician Kenji Williams. Let your students experience Earth Day in a whole new light by participating in an event that marries art with science. Kenji Williams will perform “Bella Gaia” against the backdrop of amazing NASA imagery of Earth, allowing viewers to see our planet just as the astronauts do when in orbit. This live webcast will be broadcast at 10 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. PDT, and again at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT. After the performance, participants have the opportunity to submit questions to Williams relating to his education and career choices or the creative method of designing such an intrinsic composition.

April 28th, 29th, or 30th9:00-9:50 AM CST10:00-10:50 AM CST1:00-1:50 PM CST2:00-2:50 PM CST
On April 28th, 29th and 30th Education Service Center Region XI host of Connect2Texas and the Frank N. Bash Visitors Center at McDonald Observatory invite students and their teachers to celebrate Astronomy Day and the International Year of Astronomy 2009 during these special interactive videoconference programs.
This year, Astronomy Day from McDonald Observatory means more than ever. 2009 has been declared the International Year of Astronomy (IYA). Worldwide, IYA celebrates 400 years of scientific inquiry and astronomical research from the rudimentary telescope Galileo used, to space based telescopes of our day. We hope that our Astronomy Day videoconferences will excite your students about science and technology.
In our morning videoconferences, students explore Jupiter's moons in a brief activity, make live daytime telescopic observations of the crescent Venus (weather permitting), and have a Q/A period with facilitator Marc Wetzel and McDonald Observatory astronomer Rachel Fuechsl.
Afternoon videoconferences include live daytime telescopic observations of the crescent Moon, and a brief Making Craters activity.
Join us for a morning and afternoon session if you can!
